Stevens Towing Company, Inc. is a midsize freight transportation company based on Yonges Island, South Carolina just south of Charleston with a Mid-Atlantic operation based in Edenton, North Carolina. Stevens Towing was founded in 1913 on Yonges Island and originally engaged in moving produce and passengers from local barrier islands to the Charleston market.
Today Stevens engages in Inland, Coastwise, and Ocean Towing. We have experienced operators and a complete fleet of Tugs, Barges, Cranes and a US Flag Jones Act Ship for all freight and construction operations. Stevens Towing regularly services the East, West, and Gulf Coasts of the US, including the Western Rivers, Great Lakes, and Caribbean as well as internationals Ports.
Our ABS tug Sea Crescent completed a long coastwise trip moving two military boats from the West Coast to the East Coast. Stevens Towing delivered 2 Tadd Rolls (78 metric tons each) and 1 Yankee Dryer (133.5 metric tons) to the GPA's Mayors Point Terminal in Brunswick, GA for a paper manufacturer in Macon, GA.

While some of the family migrated south to Georgia, the direct descendants of the Stevens family remained in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina.

The goal of the program is to foster ties with the local community through Baptist Hill High School and St. John's High School, and to develop a workforce pipeline through collaborative training and mentoring.
William Holmes, who retired as a shipyard supervisor with Stevens after 25 years returned to the shipyard to instruct and mentor the students.
He teaches proper techniques of SMAW "Stick" welding, GMAW "MIG" welding, grinding and oxy-fuel cutting, while incorporating workplace safety and the use and care of tools and equipment.
